Acne Treatments: ALA

Depending on your skin condition or past response to other acne treatments, photodynamic therapy using Levulan® Kerastick ALA may be part of a prescribed clearCONCEPT treatment program. Levulan ALA is a topical photosensitive solution used in combination with the OmniluxTM acne blue light therapy to reduce sebum production and kill the acne-causing bacteria in your skin.

After a microdermabrasion and thorough cleansing of the skin, the ALA product is applied directly to the skin and allowed to incubate painlessly for 30-45 minutes. The Omnilux is then used to "photo-activate" the Levulan ALA. The entire treatment takes approximately one hour, and depending on the severity of your acne, the number and strength of the required treatments will vary.

The skin will continue to be very sensitive to light for 48 hours after the treatment and exposure to the sun or other bright light must be avoided.
